My mother used to make these cookies. The dough is so good that the actual cookie yield was as low as 50%, much to her dismay.

Yields1 Serving
 1 cup Shorrtening or butter
 1 cup Brown sugar
 1 cup Sugar
 2 Eggs, well-beaten
 1 tsp Vanilla
 1 ½ cups Enriched flour, sifted
 1 tsp Salt
 1 tsp Baking soda
 3 cups Quick cooking oats
 ½ cup Chopped walnuts

Thoroughly cream butter and sugars.

Add eggs and vanilla.

Add dry ingredients and mix.

Add oats and nuts and mix.

Shape into squarish logs, about 1" x 1 1/2" and wrap in waxed paper.

Place in fridge or freezer and allow to chill completely.

Slice into 1/4" thicknesses.

Place on greased cookie sheet and bake in a 350 F oven for 10 minutes.
